About

A beloved part of celebrations and competitions

The Macdonald Pipe Band of Pittsburgh is a crowd-pleasing staple of several local and regional parades, including the Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade, alternating community Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades, and the Pittsburgh Labor Day Parade, in addition to several parades in Ohio and West Virginia.

We regularly play at local university graduation ceremonies and travel around the Eastern United States competing at various Highland games and Celtic festivals. In the fall, our performance season culminates at the Ligonier Highland Games, held at the band’s beautiful birthplace, Idlewild Park, PA.

Join a tradition forged by friendship

The Macdonald Pipe Band is always looking to grow. We believe each new member makes us better by bringing unique and special talents.

To make it easier to join us, we offer top-notch instruction from highly regarded, professional teachers for those interested in learning piping or drumming from scratch or furthering their craft. Whether you’re interested in some or all of the following band experiences we offer, there’s a spot for you!

Most of all, we are friends. We encourage one another, strive to make each other better, have fun at rehearsal and events, and of course, make time to stop for a refreshing beverage.

Any person, regardless of race, creed, orientation, or national origin is eligible for membership in the Macdonald Pipe Band. All it takes is a desire to learn, play music with great people, and have fun!
